Information about Munich International Airport

Franz Josef Strauß Airport (Munich Airport code IATA: MUC) is currently the seventh-busiest airport in Europe, which handles more than 50 million travelers annually. This international airdrome serves Munich and Upper Bavaria and covers 250 destinations in Europe and all over the world including Warsaw, Istanbul, Seoul, Oslo, Sofia, Düsseldorf, Dresden, and Barcelona. In Germany, MUC is second only to Frankfurt Airport if we evaluate passenger traffic.

Flughafen München (MUC Airport code ICAO: EDDM) operates as a hub for Lufthansa, Condor Airline, and TUI fly Deutschland. The airdrome is named in honor of Franz Josef Strauss, who was a long-time Governor of Bavaria. He properly initiated the airdrome project in 1980.

MUC is situated in Freising which is 28 km (18 miles) northeast of Munich. The airdrome has a territory of 15.6 km² on land where previously a village named Franzheim was based. Flughafen München consists of two passenger terminals and two runways 4 km (2.5 miles) in length, which operate 90 aircraft movements per hour.
